Planning Based on Assessment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Once the circulating nurse has completed their preoperative assessment, they may need to go back to the OR room to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Perform additional setup based on their findings.<\/li>
  2. <\/a> Collaborate with the anesthesia care team to ensure any extra equipment is available.<\/li>
  3. Relay any additional information to the surgical team that may need to be followed up on.<\/li><\/ol>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

    Transporting to the OR<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

    Depending on a patient\u2019s disposition, they may come to the <\/a>OR by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Foot<\/li>
    2. Wheelchair<\/li>
    3. Stretcher<\/li>
    4. Hospital bed<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      Depending on the institution\u2019s protocol and the patient\u2019s status, they may be brought to the <\/a>OR by a porter or may require the nurse <\/a>and anesthesiologist to accompany them during transport.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

      The Surgical Safety Checklist Part 1: The BRIEFING<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      You were introduced to the surgical safety checklist as a patient safety tool in course 1. The BRIEFING takes place when a patient enters the OR, is transferred onto the OR bed, and before the induction of anesthesia. <\/a>This occurs while the patient is still awake so they can be a part of the briefing procedure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
