    Introduction <\/h5>\n\n\n\n

    Post-operative care of a patient begins during the debriefing phase of the Surgical Safety Checklist (SSC) and is completed before the patient is transferred to PACU. Post-operatively, it is important for the perioperative nurse to be by the patient\u2019s side to assist the anesthesia provider during the emergence of anesthesia and extubation. It is a critical time due to events that may occur after extubation that are considered medical emergencies. Upon admission to PACU, the PACU RN prioritizes the patient’s assessment of airway, breathing, and circulation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
